Dixie
In the fall of 1999 while Marty and I were living in the apartment, we wanted to get a dog but it didn't seem feasible to have the type of dog we like in an apartment. Both of us enjoy larger breed dogs, so those little "apartment dogs" just wouldn't be the type of thing we wanted.
So I was watching a documentary on the Discovery channel one day on this breed of dog called Cardigan Welsh Corgis. After doing research on the Internet, I found that they are the perfect dog for us - they have the personality of a big dog but in a small package.
I started looking for a place that I could get a puppy. Long story short, I ended up talking with a lady named Cathy in Reston, Virginia. We ended up driving up to Reston to pick up an 8 week old brindle female and brought her home - we named her Dixie.
Dixie was with us for 12 years and then sometime around November 29th, 2011 she laid down in the woods where she was comfortable and passed on peacefully. She had a good life and was an excellent dog.
Harley
Dixie was about a year old when we decided that she would probably like a companion. We were living in our first house by then with a nice fenced in yard.
I found a website at a place in Texas called Tricreek Kennels. I spoke with Jennifer there and I ended up getting our next pup from her.
We had the 10 week old blue merle male flown in and we picked him up at the airport - we named him Harley.
Many years later, and about 6 months after Dixie passed on, Harley too walked towards the woods one day (he didn't quite make it all the way), and just laid down and passed on peacefully as well. He too had a good life and was an excellent dog.
