Wildlife Around Our House

We see a lot of wildlife on our property and on the Falls Lake property adjacent to ours. Once in a while I am lucky enough to capture a very small portion of it with my camera (not very clearly).

Pileated Woodpecker
Pileated Woodpeckers are fairly rare and we almost always see them in pairs (or multiple pairs of pairs!)

Red-Headed Woodpecker
Red-Headed Woodpeckers are hard to capture with the camera and the pictures do not do justice to the brilliant colors.

Red-Tailed Hawk
There seems to be a hawk nest fairly close by, and our abundance of squirrels seem to keep the hawks well-fed.

Turkey
The turkeys around here are very skittish around people, but we have seen anywhere from one to a group of eight.

Hoot Owl (Barred Owl)
Owls are really neat - usually we see them flying through the trees. I don't know how they fly so well through the trees without hitting branches - they seem so huge. I've also seen them catching grasshoppers and mice in our front yard.

Bird Feeder
We have a couple bird feeders around the house. Frequent visitors include cardinals, goldfinches, and of course, squirrels and even raccoons.

White-Tailed Deer
And of course we have tons of deer.
